May 24th, 2013: surprise performance by Françoise Vanhecke
Françoise Vanhecke will do improvisation and music by Marina Shmotova, Stravinsky and Irma Bilbao at the Cultural Centre in Menen.
On May 24th, at 19.30 h, cultural centre "De Steiger" in Menen presents its brand new seasonal programme during an evening show with the theme "Russia". Various artists will be available for a chat or will give a taste of their planned performances. Françoise Vanhecke will bring some improvisation and music by Marina Shmotova, Stravinsky and Irma Bilbao.

In een interview op "la radio du Diois" bespreekt Françoise Vanhecke haar carrière, haar verlangens en haar onderzoek op het gebied van zangstem.
Ze vertelt over het theaterstuk "Basta Diva", waarin zij de rol speelt van Carmella Lucia. Basta Diva wordt op 11 mei vanaf 18 uur gespeeld ter gelegenheid van het festival "Les Esiègleries" dat doorgaat op 9, 10 en 11 mei te Die.

LOGOS' ROBOTORKEST OP DE UNESCO MUSIC DAYS TE GLASGOW
De Unesco erkende in 2009 de stad Gent als Creative City of Music. Wereldwijd zijn
er slechts 5 muzieksteden die deze titel mogen dragen: Glasgow, Bologna, Sevilla,
Bogota en Gent. Nu organiseren ze samen jaarlijks de UNESCO MUSIC DAYS en dit
telkens rond een ander muziekgenre.
Bij de eerste editie vorig jaar kwam de oude muziek aan de beurt.
Voor de tweede editie die plaats zal vinden op 19 en 20 april 2013 is Glasgow de organisator. Glasgow, City of Music koppelt deze UNESCO Music Days ook aan een jaarlijks treffen van de Europese muzieksector, het European Forum on Music
Dit jaar is het thema hedendaagse muziek, Man and Machine. De steden Glasgow en Gent selekteerden in onderlinge afspraak het unieke robotorkest van Stichting Logos en haar ensemble.
Deze uitnodiging is voor ons zeer waardevol, daar wij werden uitgekozen om met ons bijzondere robotorkest en het Ensemble op te treden in Glasgow,
als de voornaamste vertegenwoordiger van Ghent, Unesco City of Music. Wij danken
dan ook Stad Gent en de vzw Unesco Music Days voor de grote eer die ons te beurt
valt.
Sinds vele tientallen jaren zijn kollaboratieve koncertprojekten met interaktieve robots, dansers, musici en performers de centrale focus van de Logos aktiviteiten. Veertig jaar ervaring in het gebruik en de ontwikkeling van allerlei soorten muzikale interfaces (draadloze gesture control, real time klankanalyse, microwave radar, acceleratie sensoren, pyrodetectors, lichtsensoren, myoelectric devices, brainwaves, EEG en ECG enz.) gekombineerd met de resultaten van onze experimentele robot- design, dragen nu hun vruchten. Dit leidde vanzelfsprekend ook tot de oprichting van een professioneel ensemble met een internationaal profiel, gespecialiseerd in performances waarbij mens en machine elkaar ontmoeten. Vandaar ook de naam “Mens en Machine”,.
Ontwerper, bouwer, programmeur en een van de komponisten van de -ondertussen 50- robots is Godfried-Willem Raes.
In Glasgow zal hij optreden samen met Kristof Lauwers (kompositie), Dominica Eyckmans (dans), Françoise Vanhecke (zang) en Moniek Darge (muziekdoosperformance).
Een deel van de robots zal ook live in real time als installatie door het publiek te bespelen zijn, zodat de toehoorders en toeschouwers zelf even kunnen proeven van wat het samenspel met robots zoal kan inhouden.

Tonight, Françoise will appear on regional television WTV and Focus.
The show “Alles Goed” will feature an interview with Françoise and Febe Hostens, one of her students that recently got accepted by the famous choir Scala.

March 28th: lecture of Françoise Vanhecke on the occasion of IPEM 50
March 25th to March 28th: the Gent conservatory organizes its “week of the contemporary music”. This events celebrates both 50 years of electronic music and the 50th anniversary of the IPEM.

(optreden van Françoise Vanhecke).

Sense and Sentiment
Terwijl we in januari nog volop de 'krachten', aktief binnen het M&M robotorkest, bundelden, is het deze maand de beurt aan iets heel anders: Sense and Sentiment. Het mag dan een thema met een brede interpretatiemarge zijn, laat u zich echter niet misleiden: we maken er heus geen kitscherige special van, en het 'sentiment' waarvan sprake is zal u geprojekteerd zien door een strikt wetenschappelijke bril.
'Sense' staat immers ook voor zintuig, tastzin en gevoeligheid. En hoe kunnen we dit gegeven beter illustreren dan met de interaktieve fijngevoeligheid waar onze muziekrobots sedert jaar en dag een patent op hebben? Een flinke brok van het repertoire zal dan ook gewijd zijn aan Namuda, de vernieuwende fusie tussen technologie en moderne dans. Binnen dit concept is alles open, zicht- en tastbaar, en in die zin dus onmiskenbaar sensueel.

3rd European Clarinet Festival (18-20 January 2013)
During the 3rd European Clarinet Festival, Françoise will give a lecture performance with Duo Phoenix on 19 January 2013 from 15.45 to 16.15. More information on the program can be found on this link.

During the European Clarinet Festival (which will take place in Ghent, Belgium, from January 17-19), I will do a Lecture-Performance on January 19: "Extended vocal techniques related to the 20th and 21st century repertoire for clarinet and voice."

3rd Cracking Bamboo Festival
From 29 September to 11 October, Françoise Vanhecke is invited as a Singer and Artistic Tutor at the CRACKING BAMBOO 2012!
CRACKING BAMBOO will take place in 2012 for the third time and it will again be one of the most colourful and inspiring projects in the world of music. Thanks to the support by the Goethe Institute, 35 musicians will meet in Bangkok to work out a new program, which we present in Bangkok, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).
The project provides the opportunity to work with musicians from fifteen different countries and to exchange professional experiences. Participants are coming from Thailand, Vietnam, The Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Germany, Belgium, Norway, England,Canada, Japan, Korea, Mongolia and Senegal.

On Tuesday 2 October, Françoise will also give a Masterclass at the Campus of the Mahidol University in Salaya (Bangkok).
