Digitization, electronics, and robotization have made their entrance into music and music technology since the beginning of the 20th century. Composers and musicians are not only seeking to expand and broaden the sound color palette of musical instruments but also that of the human voice. To widen the sound idiom of the singing voice, Extended Vocal Techniques (EVT) are being developed, vocal techniques that can generate new sounds.
The Belgian soprano and composer Françoise Vanhecke adds a new EVT to the list with her groundbreaking inhaling singing technique (ISFV® or Inhaling Singing by Françoise Vanhecke®). In this book, Françoise Vanhecke, a pioneer, researcher, developer, and advocate of the technique, explains in simple language and with the help of a number of music excerpts how and why ISFV® is definitely an added value for vocal idiom.
